Childish Gambino Previews New Album Artwork, Drops First Single ‘Me and Your Mama’

Last night, Childish Gambino took to Twitter to hint that he is dropping music for the first time in a long, long, loooong, time.  The tweet is an image of what was later confirmed to be the new artwork and with the caption “…Awaken, My Love!”, the title of his upcoming album.

The song premiered on Zane Lowe’s ‘Beats1 Radio’ on Apple Music, with Zane confirming the track would be off of the forthcoming album.  Zane was clearly feeling the new music, and played it back a record 6 times in a row before moving on to a new song.

Gambino has quietly kept himself hard at work, between Atlanta, his new show on FX that  just wrapped up it’s first season, and his Pharos festival that took over SoCal and sold out in 6 minutes. Rumors had been spreading  about new music coming out, but last nights tweet was the first real hint from the man himself.

Word on the street is that “…Awaken, My Love!” is dropping on December 2nd. Hopefully that’s true because as great of an actor Donald Glover is, we are in some serious need of new music from him

Mac Miller Shares Visuals to “Stay” While Kicking it on the Beach

Mac Miller has kept himself busy in the closing months of 2016.  After dropping the The Divine Feminine in September and heading out on a tour sharing the same name, Mac is back with the video to the single”Stay” off of the album.  The song is a favorite of mine off the project, and it’s always nice seeing a song you love get a video to go along with it.

The video shows Mac dancing around a SoCal beach acting as cool as the weather seems to be, vibing along the deserted coastline as he raps and sings on the latest single. Mac as always put together an interesting video that, this time going for something that is drastically different from the video to “Dang!” the first single off the album. This video’s atmosphere is much more grey in contrast to the upbeat song but they balance out very well to create an awesome video to watch.

Kid Cudi is Funky as Hell, Releases Video To “Surfin’ Ft. Pharell”

What a gift on this Halloween Monday.  Kid Cudi started this week off and gives us the video to his most recent single “Surfin'” off of his upcoming album Passion, Pain, and Demon Slayin’.  This video is crazy, and shows Cudi and a bunch of his friends going wild in a forest created during an intense acid trip.  Among the crowd are A$AP Rocky, Jaden and Willow Smith, and Cudi’s close friend and frequent collaborator Dot Da Genius.

The Pharell produced track is bouncy and light, and the beat is absolutely infectious.  Kid Cudi, always been one for a good hook, delivers yet again with his catchiest chorus in a long time.  It’s great hearing Cudi on such a fun beat and hopefully we see more of this with the album.

With Cudi still in rehab, there isn’t any word on when Passion, Pain, and Demon Slayin’ will be released, but hopefully it will be soon with Cudi headlining ComplexCon next week. Cudi recently called out Drake for taking shots at him on his latest song “Two Birds, One Stone” while Cudi was still in rehab.  We’ll have to wait and see to know if anything will end up coming out of this.

Listen to ScHoolboy Q and The Rest Of Black Hippy’s Remix Of “THat Part”

ScHoolboy Q’s latest album Blank Face LP dropped last night, and Q delivers yet again.
One of the best surprises off the album isn’t actually a track on the album but the remix to his hit “THat Part” that features the rest of Black Hippy. Q released the song along side the album onSoundcloud, and it proves once again that any time Black Hippy gets together, you’re going to get a hit.

Jay Rock, Kendrick, and Ab-Soul all add verses along with Q adding a new one. This track just adds to the argument that TDE has the best roster and has me praying that a full album with all of them is on its way. Wishful thinking but it’s not crazy to hope.

Check the track below and listen to the entire Blank Face LP on Spotify or ITunes.

Stop Snapchatting At Concerts

Look, I get how great Snapchat is. This isn’t a rant against Snapchat.  It’s probably the most important social media platform out there at the moment.  Facebook is for old people, Twitter’s stock is crashing faster than they can tweet out updates about its crashing stock, and Instagram is for tea-tox coupons and “models”. Snapchat is the king right now, and yeah it gives us the power to document our lives for 24-hour windows, but we’ve been abusing the hell out of that power.  For a really straight-forward app, there’s a million ways to be an awful snapchatt-er, but there is no way to be worse than Snapchatting throughout a concert.
